Housing Access Services

Housing Access Services (HAS) provides housing assistance to people who have a disability and are receiving Medical Assistance (MA) benefits. HAS can assist with the housing search and can assist with financial needs related to the move when applicable. Arc Northland is funded for 3 hours per month to assist individuals directly and $1,000.00 per quarter to help cover approved costs. HAS requests are reviewed in the order they are received.

What does Housing Access Services do?

Housing HAS providers can assist eligible adults with:

• Searching for and applying for housing that is affordable and in a chosen location

• Creating a budget

• Understanding the rental process and the lease

• Finding funding for deposits and moving costs

• Understanding and applying for other financial assistance programs

• Navigating housing issues with management and other residents

• Keeping your housing

Who is eligible for Housing Access Services?

• People living with a disability and:

• Are at least 18 years old

• If you do not have a waiver

• Have Medical Assistance

• Have your own home and are able to afford to stay there and aren’t being asked to leave

• Want to move to your own home and you can decide which services you want to have

Note: Adults eligible for HAS who have found their own housing, may be eligible for HAS funds to pay for a security deposit, mover costs, or some basic furniture/household goods.

Self-Advocacy and Housing Stability

Family Training and Counseling Services with a Housing Advocacy focus will integrate self-advocacy skill development as a foundation for long-term housing stability. Participants will learn to communicate effectively, understand and exercise their tenant rights, and navigate complex housing systems with confidence. By promoting independence, proactive problem-solving, and effective collaboration with landlords and service providers, this program will help participants with ongoing support for individuals and families by maintaining stable housing.

Key Focus Areas include: Expressing Housing Needs, Tenant Rights and Responsibilities, Crisis & Safety Planning, and Maintaining Tenancy

To receive this service you must have a waiver and service authorization in place for Family Training and Counseling Services.

Relocation Services Coordination

Relocation Services Coordination (RSC) is a form of Targeted Case Management that provides coordination of activities to help a person who resides in an eligible institution gain access to medical, social, educational, financial, housing and other services and supports that are necessary to move to the community.
